with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-79. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. An attacker might be able to inject arbitrary html and script code into the web site. This would alter the appearance and would make it possible to initiate further attacks against site visitors.
The weakness was shared 08/17/2009 by Alexander Polyakov with Digital Security Research Group (Website). The advisory is available at adobe.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-1872 since 06/01/2009. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 42340 (Adobe ColdFusion CGI abuses : XSS. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12353 (Adobe ColdFusion prior to 8.0.1 Multiple Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerabilities (APSB09-12)).
