Britain accuses China of ‘systemic’ cyberattacks across the world | News
Britain has accused China of “systematic cyber sabotage” over a hack of Microsoft servers that hit tens of thousands of people worldwide.
At least 30,000 organisations had IT systems compromised by groups backed by Beijing earlier this year. Officials said the attack was likely to have facilitated the acquisition of personal information and intellectual property.
It is only the second time Britain has publicly called out the Chinese state for its cyber espionage. The US, EU and Nato also issued statements blaming Beijing.
Dominic Raab, the foreign secretary, said the cyberattack by “Chinese state-backed groups” was part of a “reckless but familiar pattern of behaviour”. A quarter of a million users were affected.
